UW Law School Deletes 𝕏 Post After Backlash
UW-Madison has long been criticized by conservatives for perceived left-wing bias
The University of Wisconsin Law School deleted an 𝕏 post about the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election after criticism from conservative users.
The election, which will be held on April 7, 2026, will presumably be between incumbent Justice Rebecca Bradley and Court of Appeals Judge Chris Taylor. Bradley will be the conservative candidate, and Taylor will be the progressive candidate, barring unforeseen entries into the race.
The post read: “Judge @ChrisTaylorWI '95 is running for the Wisconsin Supreme Court next spring to replace Justice Rebecca Bradley. Read the full story: bit.ly/43a2enp.”
However, 𝕏 users soon noted that Bradley is a UW Law School alumna herself and did not get an equivalent post when she launched her campaign more than a month ago.
Moreover, recent law school graduate Luke Dretske argued that the wording of the post implied that Bradley was not running for reelection and should instead say Taylor is “challenging” the incumbent justice.
Rick Esenberg, president of the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, said UW Law School “should fix this and reprimand the responsible party. Schools typically go out of their way to identify alums.”
One user called it “overt political bias” from UW-Madison and said “rather than celebrating an incumbent Supreme Court Justice who is alum, they are actively advertising her opponent because she aligns with the university’s political values more.”
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also shared a post by another user that said those running the university “probably don’t want to put [Bradley] on equal footing with Taylor.”
As of Friday morning, however, the post had been deleted without explanation or apology from the Law School.
