As the last two election cycles have concluded, it has become quite clear what issue Democrats care about the most. Everybody who watches TV has seen a multitude of commercials warning of “draconian” abortion restrictions or a “national abortion ban”. While inflation was raging, an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants were flooding the border, and conflicts were sprouting up all over the world, the Democratic Party chose to focus on abortion.
Abortion is the one issue that has become non-negotiable for the Left over the years. This isn’t just because it’s a popular issue for the Democrats to run on, but because abortion is the greatest “accomplishment” of liberalism.
Childbearing is the single most glaring difference between men and women, and it is impossible to ignore. It undoubtedly has many real-life consequences that can exacerbate the distinctions between the sexes. For example, many argue that children can cause women to lag behind men in the job market. Hollywood actress Michelle Williams even credited her abortion for her acting achievements. Williams may have been able to have a great career, but this came at the cost of her innocent and beautiful child’s life.
Since (at least) the French Revolution, the Left’s goal has been to ensure complete equity throughout society. The Right, however, understands that there are natural hierarchies in society. Some people are smarter or more hardworking than others, while gender differences will inevitably lead to different results in various aspects of life.
Abortion alleviates many disparities that women face due to their ability to bear children. Ruth Badger Ginsberg, a former Supreme Court Justice, claimed “It is essential to women’s equality with man that she be the decisionmaker…[otherwise] you are disadvantaging her because of her sex.” However, it also takes away the life of an innocent child who has the same God-given right to life that we all share.
There will inevitably be trade-offs from any policy we institute in society. Conservatives understand that abortion restrictions may have some negative consequences, but no consequence is greater than ending the life of an innocent child. Childbearing is an incredible and beautiful gift that women have. The ability to carry children is one of the greatest gifts God has ever given us.
Childbearing will have consequences that may lead to gender differences. This forces us to recognize how the world was made and we cannot sacrifice the lives of innocent children to fix this discrepancy.
The right to life is the most important right for a society, and for a government, to protect. After all, if you don’t have your life no other rights matter.
While more Americans are pro-choice than ever, I know that we must fight without shame for the rights of the unborn, to change hearts and minds, and to become a society that promotes life.
