Redditors Upset By Scott Walker's Upcoming Visit to UW-Madison
One Redditor said, "I want to punch this guy in the dick."
Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker will give a speech on campus tomorrow in an event hosted by Young Americans for Freedom and the Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy. His mere presence, however, is upsetting to leftists.
According to Wisconsin YAF chair Courtney Graves, fliers for the event have been torn down at an incredible speed. Others have been defaced, including one in College Library where a swastika was drawn on Walker’s face. This flier was later torn down as well.
In a post shared on the Reddit page r/madisonwi, commenters criticized Walker’s governorship and predicted that his plan for reviving the economy includes “tax cuts for the rich.” Another comment said, “Gotta give him credit to show up in Madison I suppose. He's either incredibly stupid or incredibly brave, can't be both tho.”
However, many of the comments were far more unhinged.
One said, “He has nothing to be afraid of unless you wanted to throw him in jail where he belongs[.] He's here to mock you because you won't jail him.”
Another Redditor wrote, “Grifters gotta grift, once a whore, always a whore. Pay him enough he’ll say anything you want him to say.”
“Wisconsin_Collin93” simply wrote, “Gosh I just hate his face lol.” Replies to that comment included, “If ever there was a face that could use an egg yeeted at it, it would be Scoot's,” and “I know right? It’s so punchable!”
This comment was repeated in various forms, such as “What a stupid punchable fucking face” and “Seeing that old picture makes me realize how blessed I have been to not see that face for years.”
“Nodiggity1213” suggested harming Walker a little lower than the face: “I want to punch this guy in the dick.”
“Fuck Scott Walker,” or variations of it, were also popular comments.
“mitch0acan” called Walker an “inbred motherfucker” while another Redditor called him “a boil on the state of Wisconsin’s ass that needs to be lanced.” He was also called “evil,” “the biggest dipshit of all time,” “a weasel,” and a “shitty ass governor.”
Posts about the event were also shared to r/uwmadison and r/50501wisconsin, with similarly intense responses. For example, “The only Dream Scottie Wanker has is sticking his Zoom Zoom in DJT's Boom Boom.”
It remains to be seen whether a counterprotest will actually occur, as there was some debate as to whether it would be more effective to simply ignore Walker.
One commenter, “bplong_plong_one_one,” said “Allowing the man to step foot on the campus he cut so much funding to… grow a pair UW.” Another Redditor said it is fine to “hate Walker,” but “you can't ban people just because you disagree them and only allow those you agree with when you're a public institution.”
“bplong_plong_one_one” replied, “True. But still, fuck him and fuck Young “Americans” for “Freedom”.”
“ladan2189” said, “Sure would be a shame if his speech was constantly interrupted by loud booing.” However, “tommypauljones” replied, “He's not even worth the breath. Let him wither away.”
“Hopalicious” argued, “Please do not show up to this talk and interrupt it. This is what Young Americans for Freedom want. They love clips of the left "policing free speech." If you must protest please do so outside the building. Remember that free speech does include things that you do not like.”
“Tapin42” disagreed, saying, “There's no reason at this point to try to police etiquette on your own side. It won't change the playbook of the other side, and momentum is built by people seeing others willing to work around the status quo.”
“pockysan” also disagreed, writing, “Oh please let the fascist talk about how he won election three times in this state and fucked it over for decades but please don't be rude to SCOTT WALKER $!@#!%$%%!@!@##.”
Walker tweeted that a few counter-protesters “will not make me back down from speaking the truth on Monday.”
Scott Walker is speaking at 6:00 PM in the Plenary Room of Grainer Hall on Monday, April 6th. The event is open to the public.
UWPD will be present at the speech.
